Not going to lie – selling domestic semi-custom cabinets in today’s competitive market is hard work. To do it successfully is even more difficult, but it can be done. And I’m here to help you navigate the challenges.
I’ve written a couple articles with tips and tactics that suggest ways it can be profitable for you to offer semi-custom cabinets as part of your product line up.
Repair Fund
I suggested in my article “How to Fortify Yourself to Successfully Sell Domestic Semi-Custom Cabinets in the 2020s” that you create a “repair fund” for each semi-custom project. The money in the repair fund comes from sales dollars that go above and beyond your profit objectives or standard mark-up.
With this money set aside, you don’t feel like you are “losing money” when you need to repair or touch up factory mistakes.
On-Site Finisher / Touch Up Specialist
As I wrote in my article “Semi-Custom Cabinets After the Sale”, I highly recommend starting your repair fund with a site finisher/touch-up specialist. These trade professionals are difficult to find. And they are worth their weight in gold for your business.
Make it a priority to find one in your area and learn their process and what they want as far as finishing materials. Some want manufacturer supplied materials, while others don’t.
This YouTube Video Channel Can Help
More Than Just a Cabinet Guy has great short videos for cabinet fixes. In the video here he asks “Make this make sense?” when homeowner is upset because the wood cabinets show natural characteristics of wood.
This young man’s comments and his other short videos tie in to my article “Fortify Yourself to Successfully Sell Domestic Semi-Custom Cabinets in the 2020s”.
He has many short videos on his channel that deal with common problems seen in kitchens, issues that you may be called on to fix. He has solutions for such things as how to do an invisible cabinet repair.
